Some people say that advertising encourages us to buy things that we really do not need. Others say that advertisements tell us about new products that may improve our lives. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Various resources of media provide students with numerous information. Attending class, therefore, is not the only access to knowledge. Despite the increasing popularity of using digital devices in learning, I believe that the teacher’s role in imparting knowledge cannot be replaced.

The advent of the Internet and other technologies drives the growth of online information resources. The massive available resources enable students to acquire knowledge more efficiently and more quickly than that of the traditional ways. They can search the resources they needed without the limitation of time. In addition, students can approach more perse types of information from different media. For example, they can browse the internet by themselves to read relative articles rather than being a passive learner.

However, these resources are no substitute for teachers. Comparatively speaking, the classes teachers provide are more structured and more reliable after teacher’s careful selection. Hence, they can get the comprehensive outlook of this subject, which is beneficial to their future academic study. Apart from this, teachers are not just capable of explaining theoretical knowledge but also enlightening students with their own practical experience. For instance, as for those young students, teachers also can improve students’ moral standards by telling them how to distinguish right from wrong; for the students in college, their tutors can provide suggestions related to students’ career choices.

To conclude, I believe that both methods provide access to get informed, but teacher’s role cannot be substituted by other resources. Applying other resources to the teaching process also can be a powerful tool to engage students in their class. Marrying these resources together can benefit students more.

Nowadays, the journalists are losing the prestige in the public because fewer people trust them. In my opinion, this trend is caused by some ill behaviors of them. The reasons and the good qualities of a journalist will be presents as below.

I have to concede that a large proportion of journalists are under the standards of journalism ethics, which leads to the public concerns of the qualities of news in media. Firstly, with the great convenience provided by the Internet, journalists can have an easy access to acquiring all kinds of information. Some of them then begin to repetitively copy or reproduce the news report from certain websites only by clicking the mouse in the office, instead of going outside for practical research. That is to say, these journalists are too lazy to write the original and in-depth news reports.

In addition, the lack of responsibility among journalists also contributes to the news crisis. For example, some of them write and report news by depending on unreliable information sources, so that newspapers and TVs are full of data mistakes and lies. Moreover, influential media are viewed as rumormongers, because they spread false news of natural disasters, social epidemics or terrorist attacks, incurring unnecessary panics in the public. The most worrying aspect is news objectiveness. In many cases of news crimes, bribed news editors cover and twist the truth of social issues, which misleads the public judgment, as well as damages the equity and democracy of social media.

In order to recover the faith and confidence of audience for news media, many good standards of journalist should be built up and tested. Firstly, journalists should have the professional dedication, which means a strong willing to go into the frontline of events, and make efforts of exploring and collecting the firsthand news materials. By this way, the high values of news reports can be ensured. Secondly, high-level work moralities are a must, including honesty, integrity, and law-abiding awareness. These traits can improve the immunity of news practicers from the lure of money. Besides, journalists should learn to give the priority to the social benefits, over the inpidual media benefits. In other words, what they report on media should be accurate, objective and accountable, rather than publishing untrue news only for attracting more audience.

In conclusion, there are many reasons why massive news media become more untrustful in the public, mainly including the loss of work passion and obligation. For the purpose of curing these ill journalists, some good qualities should be cultivated and encouraged, like the dedication, righteousness and carefulness.

Task:Some people think parents should read or tell stories to children, while others think parents need not do that, as children can read books, watch TV or movies by themselves. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

It has been rightly said that ‘There have been great societies that did not use the wheel, but there have been no societies that did not tell stories.’ The question of debate is whether parents should read or tell stories to children or whether children should come to know about stories themselves by reading books or by watching TV or movies. In this essay I intend to discuss both views followed by my opinion.

There are many benefits of reading bedtime stories to children. First of all, it encourages family bonding. In this day and age of hectic lives and busy schedules, reading together is a simple and enjoyable way for parents to take time out and focus on the family. Children also feel wanted and loved. What is more, it moulds children into becoming readers, and this significantly increases the child’s potential for academic success as well as lifelong success in general. It also helps children master language development as by listening to stories, children learn pronunciation and vocabulary. It also builds listening skills, increases a child’s attention span, and develops the ability to concentrate. It develops children’s ability to express themselves more confidently, easily, and clearly in spoken and written terms. It develops and fosters a child’s natural curiosity.

Furthermore, it develops creativity and a child’s ability to use his own imagination. It expands children’s horizons by exposing them to new situations, and teaches them appropriate behavior. Reading children’s stories to children provides the best opportunities for true teaching moments as most of these stories have morals. Reading picture books develops a young child’s appreciation for the arts through exposure to many different styles of art and illustrations.

On the other hand, some opine that children should themselves read stories from books or watch them on TV and in movies. When reading books and news on TV by themselves rather than by depending on parents, children have the freedom of making decisions and judgments, thus sharpening the ability of independent thinking. What is more, it is mainly freely reading books, magazines and TV programs in a persity of subjects, from science to arts to sports that builds up the self-discovery for children, for example, figuring out what subjects and future careers might be suitable for their potentials, talents and interests.

This would be much easier for the parents who are too busy nowadays, but then all the above benefits would not ensue. What is more, parents can start telling stories to children much before children can themselves read. Watching TV does not help the child to develop imagination and this may be detrimental in the long run. Moreover, it would be difficult to monitor what children are actually learning.

To sum up, I believe that, it is always better for the parents as well as the children, if parents read aloud to their children. This would give them quality time together and loads of other benefits which I have discussed above. I pen off with a famous quote of Robert Mackee “Stories are the creative conversion of life itself into a more powerful, clearer, more meaningful experience. They are the currency of human contact.”
